📢 The BHRP team’s visit to Baraawe was an integral part of our ongoing project, “Human Rights and Humanitarian situation in Baraawe District” (HHSBD24-25). Led by Vice-President Zahra M Omar, our team aimed to assess the conditions and challenges faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs), minors, and vulnerable groups in Baraawe.

During our visit, we had the privilege of meeting with Baraawe district commissioner, Omar Sheikh Abdi, members of the civil society, IDPs, vulnerable groups, and Labkoban Idps camp manager, Ms. Dr. Amino Kulow. These meetings provided us with valuable insights into the pressing issues affecting the local population.

We also visited IDP camps, including Camp Labkoban, to witness firsthand the living conditions and challenges faced by the IDPs. The situation in Baraawe is alarming, with a lack of shelters, toilets, and clean drinking water posing significant health and sanitation risks. Additionally, the absence of adequate humanitarian support further exacerbates the hardships faced by the IDPs and vulnerable groups.

The absence of a proper hospital and limited educational opportunities add to the challenges faced by the people of Baraawe. Children are unable to attend school, depriving them of essential education and opportunities for a better future. Moreover, malnourishment is a prevalent issue among children and the elderly, highlighting the urgent need for assistance.

We are grateful for the warm reception and appreciation shown by the Baraawe Administration and local communities. Our commitment to listening to the concerns and experiences of the residents demonstrates our dedication to addressing the human rights and humanitarian crises in the region. The attached report, prepared by our delegation, will provide a comprehensive overview of the challenges faced by IDPs, vulnerable groups, widows, and minors in Baraawe.

Through our work, we aim to raise awareness about the dire situation in Baraawe and advocate for the rights and well-being of its residents. By highlighting these issues, we hope to mobilize support and resources to alleviate the suffering and contribute to a brighter future for the people of Baraawe.

The report of the HHSBD24-25 Project is currently under process and will only be shared with upcoming partnerships.
